Laid out by hand in 1921.
Twelve founding members, two horses and a borrowed plough built the first nine holes along the dunes. The back nine followed in 1958, and the course has hardly changed since.

1921
The first nine
The founders walked the dunes for a whole summer before they cut a single green. Most of the front nine still follows the lines they chose.
1958
The back nine
The back nine went inland across the heath, built by the same family of greenkeepers who still look after the course today.
Today
The club
Four hundred members, a waiting list most years and visitors every day after ten. The clubhouse fire is lit from October to April.
“We didn’t design the course. We found it, and tried not to spoil it.”
Thomas Hale, founding member, 1921
