Eighteen holes on the gorse.

A links course laid out in 1921 along a mile of Atlantic dunes. Par 72, 6,841 yards from the back tees, and almost never the same wind twice.

Yardages from the back tees. Prices in USD.

Out

Front Nine

Out along the shore and back through the pines. 3,372 yards, par 36.

Long shadows across a fairway at sunrise

First Light

Hole 1 · Par 4

398 yd

A gentle start downwind, with a fairway wide enough to settle the nerves. The green slopes from back to front.

The Burn

Hole 2 · Par 4

421 yd

A stream crosses the fairway at 260 yards. Lay up short of it or carry it; there is no third option.

Whin

Hole 3 · Par 3

168 yd

Gorse on both sides and a green that falls away to the left. Take one more club than you think.

Long Acre

Hole 4 · Par 5

532 yd

The longest hole on the front nine runs along the dunes toward the sea. Two good shots leave a short pitch to a plateau green.

Signature hole

Lookout

Hole 5 · Par 4

376 yd

A blind tee shot over a ridge: aim at the white stone. The reward is the best view on the course.

Saddle

Hole 6 · Par 4

412 yd

The fairway tilts toward a pot bunker on the right, and so will your ball.

The Pot

Hole 7 · Par 3

152 yd

Short, but the green is guarded by a single deep bunker you will remember.

Heather

Hole 8 · Par 5

509 yd

Reachable in two for long hitters, if they can stay out of the heather on the left.

The Pines

Hole 9 · Par 4

404 yd

Turns back through a stand of old pines toward the clubhouse. The approach is played in and out of shadow.

Signature hole

In

Back Nine

Inland across the heath, then home up the hill. 3,469 yards, par 36.

An old tree over a frosty fairway in the morning

Seaward

Hole 10 · Par 4

386 yd

Straight toward the water, with the wind usually in your face.

Gully

Hole 11 · Par 4

433 yd

The hardest hole on the card. A ravine cuts across the fairway ninety yards short of the green.

Stroke index 1

Lochan

Hole 12 · Par 3

187 yd

A small loch sits short and left of the green. In the evening the whole hole is in its reflection.

Signature hole

Dunes

Hole 13 · Par 5

548 yd

Weaves between two lines of dunes. Stay in the valley and it is a birdie chance.

Kiln

Hole 14 · Par 4

361 yd

Named for the old lime kiln behind the green. Short, but the green is the smallest on the course.

Gorse

Hole 15 · Par 4

418 yd

The hole the club is named for. In May the gorse turns the whole hillside yellow.

Bents

Hole 16 · Par 3

205 yd

A long par three across rough bent grass. Anything on the green is a good shot.

Long Shore

Hole 17 · Par 5

521 yd

Bunkers in pairs all the way to the green, laid out like stepping stones.

Signature hole

Home

Hole 18 · Par 4

410 yd

Uphill to the clubhouse, with the members watching from the terrace.
